Research Mentoring
Long-term guidance for developing as an independent researcher.
Develop as a more confident and independent researcher.
Long-term research requires more than a good initial design. It also requires judgement, confidence and the ability to make sound decisions as a project develops.
Research Mentoring is an individual programme for people who need more than a one-off consultation. It provides structured support for your current project while helping you develop greater confidence and independence as a researcher.
The programme does not replace formal university supervision. It offers an additional, confidential space in which to test ideas, address difficult decisions, organise your work and receive consistent independent feedback.
Why work with me?
Research projects evolve over months or years. Good mentoring is not about providing ready-made answers, but about helping researchers make stronger decisions as their projects develop.
My mentoring draws on more than fifteen years of experience in research, higher education, qualitative methodology, interdisciplinary projects and academic publishing. I have supervised and mentored students and researchers at different career stages and understand both the intellectual demands of research and the practical difficulties of sustaining a long project.
This may be useful when
- you lack regular or sufficiently detailed supervision
- your project repeatedly loses direction
- you struggle to convert ideas into a workable plan
- you need accountability and structured milestones
- methodological or conceptual decisions are slowing progress
- you are moving from professional work into academia
- you want to strengthen your research skills, not merely complete one assignment
What we will explore together
- research questions and design
- conceptual framing
- literature review strategy
- qualitative methodology
- interviews, fieldwork and analysis
- thesis or dissertation structure
- academic writing and argumentation
- publication and conference planning
- navigating supervision, feedback and academic relationships
- research identity, confidence and working routines
